Note from Melanie Jayne: The zips found in most local fabric stores are a #3 which are only suitable for lightweight garments. The ones on our website are what we use in our garments and much are stronger. The teeth get bigger as the number gets higher. Use the #4 for all standard garments, and #5 for heavy weight garments where the layers are thicker or added seam thickness. They hide invisible really well and can be stitched in with your normal zipper foot. Simply roll back the teeth and stitch as close as you can. The #5 size rolls exceptionally well and is the only choice for strapless bridal gowns. If the length is too long, we usually cut the bottom of the zip to length and use the off cut of tape to bind the end. Flick a gas lighter to seal the tape so it doesn't fray.
